According to Fillmore Sheriff’s Office Investigator Sgt. Dan Dornink, on February 16, 2024, at approximately 10:05 p.m., the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office received 911 calls indicating a crash in the 29000 block of County Rd 1 in rural Spring Valley. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had struck an Amish buggy with several occupants. Deputies responded to the scene along with the Spring Valley Ambulance and the Spring Valley Fire Department. Upon arrival it was noted that there were nine occupants of the buggy, six of which were transported to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with unknown injuries. The Spring Valley Ambulance was assisted by the Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service.
A deputy on the scene of the crash reported that the driver of the striking vehicle had fled the scene. The vehicle and driver were later located at a residence in the city of Spring Valley.
Two of the six victims of the crash, ages 12 years and one year, remained in the hospital as of late morning, February 17; their conditions were listed as stable.
The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the MN State Patrol to determine the cause and manner of the crash. No further information is available at this time.
