Valerie Dawn (Paulson) Wagner, 85, of Spring Grove, Minn., passed away unexpectedly into the eternal care of our Lord on December 22, 2023, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wis.
Valerie was born on February 24, 1938, in Rushford, Minn., to Edwin and Cora Paulson. She was baptized and confirmed in Rushford. She graduated from Rushford High School in 1957. She married Harry Wagner on December 14, 1957, at Rushford Trinity Church. They were married for 49 years at the time of Harry’s passing. Valerie worked at Control Data, Spring Grove, for several years and the Motor Vehicle Department in Caledonia, Minn., for 26 years.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours and baked goods throughout the years. Valerie also belonged to the “Red Hat Club” for many years and cherished all the wonderful friendships. She was always ready to go with her purple and red outfits.
Valerie was an avid shopper, until the very end. She loved her shoes, her jewelry, hats and purses. She often said she could wear a different outfit for months. Hats were her speciality. She loved reading books. She was often found at the library weekly, returning four or five books. She and her daughter Dianne would swap boxes of books.
Harry and Val enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. On many occasions, they would decide the night before to leave the next day. Their bags were always packed. Alaska was their favorite vacationing spot, where they spent over a month on a cruise and taking in the sites. She went on a helicopter ride to see the Rotary Lights, two weeks before her passing.
Valerie’s greatest joy and blessing was her family. She loved her girls and would do anything for them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Michael) Tweeten of Spring Grove and Dionne (Robert) Schoh, of Caledonia, Minn.; her son-in-law Steven Morrison, five grandchildren: Deedra Morrison of Winona, Minn., Tracy Tweeten-Lind (Colby) of Rushford, Minn., Jaclyn Tweeten (Ryan) of Spring Grove, Benjamin Schoh of Caledonia, and Jayde Schoh of Winona; four great-grandchildren: Abby LaRue, Tate, Channing and Laramie Lind; many nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law, Ione Paulson.
