The Section 1A boys post-season race should be a good one. A likely key team will be the #9 in Class A Rushford-Peterson Trojans. Chris Drinkall’s group ran its win streak to six with victories over Lanesboro and Fillmore Central. Versus the Burros (10-8), junior guard Grady Hengel’s perfect night (9-9 FGs, 19 pts, 6 asts) highlighted a 67-37 victory. R-P (15-4) was R-P efficient; 23 of 43 field goals (54%), 13 of 17 free throws (77%). Justin Ruberg (13 pts, 5-7 FGs, 7 rebs) and Dawson Bunke (12 pts, 3-6 threes) also hit double figures. Andrew Hoiness chipped in 8 points. Mason Howard (11 pts, 3-5 threes) and John Prestemon (10 pts, 4-4 FTs) hit double digits for Matt Asleson’s group. Stephan Schultz added 8 points. R-P then trekked to FC and came away with a 56-44 win. The Trojans led 34-13 at halftime and the closest FC then got was the final. Hengel (19 pts, 9-13 FGs, 4 asts, 4 stls) again led the way. Ruberg (14 pts, 4-4 FTs, 12 rebs) authored a double-double. Malachi Bunke (14 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts) gave R-P three in double figures. Jayce Kiehne (12 pts) was the lone Falcon to top ten. Dillon O’Connor added 9 points. Grabbing 14 offensive rebounds (to FC’s six) helped R-P attempt more shots; 23 of 52 (44%) to FC’s 16 of 38 (42%). The Falcons were 11 of 16 from two-point-range (69%). The teams combined to go 9 of 39 from deep (R-P 4 of 17 > 24%; FC 5 of 22 > 23%). Each team has multiple times hit 10 threes in a game this season. R-P had 20 points-off-turnovers to FC’s 13 and won in the paint 38 to 22. The Trojans improved to 8-3, 16-4. They are 10-0 versus 1A foes and the #2 QRF team. FC fell to 3-8, 7-14.
