Thomas Harold Moenck, age 70, of Caledonia, Minn., passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at Mayo Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born December 15, 1952, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to Harold and Lila (Andersen) Moenck. Tom graduated from Caledonia High School, where he was an excellent athlete. He held a school record for over 30 years. Following high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He retired after 36 years as a Master Sergeant earning several awards, including 15 Army Commendation Medals. He was employed by the Houston County Hwy Dept. for 40 years, specializing in heavy equipment operation, welding and fabrication. Tom was a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years. He was also active in the Caledonia Legion and Masonic Lodge. Tom enjoyed time with family, fishing (especially Wednesday night walleye tournaments) and fishing trips with many good friends, boating, morel mushroom hunting, ginseng hunting, turkey and pheasant hunting, jogging, restoring antique gas engines and long convertible rides with the love of his life, Carolyn.
Tom will be greatly missed by his wife Carolyn, his children Angela (Matt) Palen of Norwalk, Iowa, Tim (Jackie) Moenck of La Crescent, Minn.; five grandchildren: Bethany, Jack, Matthew, Julia and Luke Palen; sister Helen Winslow, three brothers: Jim (MaryAnn) Moenck, Dan Moenck, and Bruce (Kelli) Moenck; father-in-law John Weymiller, sisters-in-law Alice (Dale) Roberts, and Audrey (Mike McMullin) Weymiller, many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many great friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Elnora Weymiller, brother-in-law Dave Winslow, and sister-in-law Debbie Moenck.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
