Lanesboro lore states that William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, and his friend and business partner Dr. Frank “White Beaver” Powell, four time La Crosse mayor, concocted the Wild West show in the late 1880s. The first show was held indoors at Lanesboro’s Nelson Hall.

“Buffalo Bill Days offers a fun and exciting weekend for all ages with a wide variety of activities, many of which are FREE! The committee looks forward to each year’s success and gives back proceeds to our community groups and upcoming projects. Please come celebrate Lanesboro with us, August 5-7, and help us give back to the community,” shared Darla Taylor, event organizer.
Join the community as they recognize the 2022 Grand Marshalls, David and Lori Bakke. “The couple has been instrumental in the success of Buffalo Bill Days, with Lori serving as chairperson for several years,” explained Taylor.
Welcome the Cannon Old West Society reenactors back as they perform a bank robbery and a shootout between the good guys and the bad guys. Attendees will enjoy watching their shenanigans in the parade.
There are free activities for the kids plus pony rides at an additional charge.
Support the high school seniors raise funds for their senior class trip. Duck races take place at the Sylvan Park Pond.
Other familiar events include the classic car show, farmers market, live entertainment, street dances, volleyball and softball tournaments, one mile or 5K run, golf tournament, ‘50s and ‘60s Sock Hop and fireworks.
The aroma of Stumpy’s Pizza, Charlie’s Cheese Curds, Abby’s Concessions, Fillmore County ADA Ice Cream, Fillmore County Pork Producers, L & L Kebab House, The Snack Shack, and True Smoke BBQ will tempt even the strongest. Biggins BBQ chicken will be available on Sunday.
