Pastor Devotion – The Old Lenora Church

May 24, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Maple Leaf Parish Spring Valley: Faith, Cherry Grove, Fountain, Preston (and Lenora) United Methodist Churches

It is a beautiful sunny Monday morning in Fillmore County – birds singing, rabbits munching on grass and cool breezes blowing.  This is the day the Lord has made and we can rejoice and be glad in it!!

I am writing this article in a refreshing way today; by hand with paper and pen. I do not have access to my computer this morning so I am taking pen to paper!! It seems appropriate to do so as yesterday I was leading a worship gathering at the old, historic Lenora Church, built in 1865 – no electric lights, no cell phones and no computers!

We gathered in the old church and sang old, gospel hymns and reflected on the joy we share together as disciples of Jesus.

The Lenora Church is a reminder of our pioneer heritage here in Fillmore County and it was a real blessing and holy moment to be able to worship in the simple, rustic beauty of the venerable church building – the old pews, the squeaky floor and the lamps in the windows helped convey the glory of the Holy Spirit’s presence.

The Lenora Church remains a place of prayer, worship and spiritual renewal. It is a special place to focus on the goodness of God.

It was a very special Sunday afternoon at Lenora Church. There was a definite sense of renewal, hope, and joy as the people came together. Being that the old church had not been used since Christmas 2019, it seemed appropriate to join in singing “Joy to the World” on May 16, 2021, all to the glory of God.

The historic Lenora Church will be a place of inspiration and spiritual renewal and the Lenora Pioneer Church Society invites people to worship there on the third sunday of each month at 3 p.m., June through November.

For more information about Lenora Church, give me a call at (507) 346-2830 or email mark.woodward.ponderosa@gmail.com.

I hope you have a great day today! It has been refreshing to write this article with pen and paper all to the glory of God!!

Your friend,

Pastor Mark Woodward
