Section 1 has always been stalwart in football, volleyball, and wrestling. This season, team track and field (if not already there) can be added to the list. Class A True Team State featured six teams from Section 1. All six finished top six (of 12). The boys’ side really shined. Section 1A runner-up St. Charles (573.5), 1A champ Lewiston-Altura (543), and LFCMC (504) went 1-2-3. Wadena-Deer Creek (500) took fourth. Dale Moga’s RPH clan (449.5) took sixth behind fifth place Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta (492.5). Top six finishers for Alex Aiken’s Burros were Carson Kiehne (2nd 200, 3rd 400), Greysen Higbe-Hurrah (3rd P-Vault), Hadrian Williams (4th Shot – 43’2”), Drew Wyffels (5th 100, 6th 200/T-Jump), and J.T. Rein (6th 300-H). Williams notably placed higher than sections (11th, 39’8”). The 4×100 (Jared Peterson, Ben Snyder, Carter Clarke, Wyffels) and 4×200 (Peterson, Snyder, Clarke, Josh Peters) each took second, the 4×800 (Nate Betz, Jake Gathje, Carson Schwichtenberg, Kiehne) fourth. LFCMC took tenth last year. Top six Tro-Cane finishers were Brady Gile (2nd 100/T-Jump), Luke O’Hare (2nd 1,600), Triton Meldahl (3rd 110-H, 4th 300-H/L-Jump), and Alex Van Gundy (6th H-Jump). Gile (100) notably placed higher than sections (9th, roughly same times). The 4×400 (Wyatt Walters, Van Gundy, Tieson Pestana, Gile) took fourth. The section’s two girls teams, GMLOKS and LFCMC, fought near the top. Minnewaska Area (549.5), Maple Lake (505.5), team-GM (463), and team-Lanesboro (448.5) went 1-2-3-4. The Burros took fourth last year too. Top six finishers for Aaron Thauwald’s GMLOKS squad were 8th grade flash Anika Reiland (1st 200, 2nd 100/400), Hailey Hindt (1st 100-H, 3rd 300-H, 6th-tie H-Jump), Riley Queensland (4th H-Jump, 5th 200), Kassidy Kirtz (4th L-Jump), Shelby Beck (5th-tie P-Vault), Jordyn Glynn (5th T-Jump), and Greta Warmka (6th Disc). The girls 4×100 (Kirtz, Hindt, Anna Oehlke, Isabelle Olson) and 4×200 (Queensland, Kirtz, Glynn, Olson) each took second. Top six finishers for Jana Boyum’s LFCMC squad were Emma Breitsprecher (1st 300-H, 2nd 100-H), Sydney Taylor (1st Disc, 110’9”), Ms. Fourth Brielle Ruen (4th 100/200/400), Kassidy Broadwater (2nd P-Vault), and Kaylee Arndt (6th 1,600). The 4×200 (Alida Berg, Kammry Broadwater, Lauren Brogle, Macayla Brogle) took fourth, the 4×100 (Berg, Kassidy Broadwater, Brogle, Brogle) fifth. Taylor notably placed higher than sections (6th, 97’1”). Stillwater High School hosted. Scoring is; more points for top finishes, less for bottom; two teammates per event, one relay.
