Steven R. Crawford, age 75, of Mabel, died Friday, June 29, 2018, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel, Minn.
Steve was born April 26, 1943, near Riceford, Minn., to Robert and Neva (Sherburne) Crawford. He attended the Mabel High School. He served in the United States Navy, where he refueled aircraft on the Coral Sea aircraft carrier. After his service, he was an over-the-road truck driver for 30 years, then worked for Sodko in Spring Grove. In 1978 a serious trucking accident left Steve with a handicap, but it never slowed him down. After retiring he lived in Mabel and resided at the Meadows Assisted Living and recently at Green Lea Senior Living.
Steve is survived by two daughters Kristen Kfox Rehm (Fred) of Goffstown, Vt., and Tanya Puttney; grandchildren Brodie Crawford and Quinn Rehm, brothers Ross (Rita) Crawford of Decorah, Iowa, Danny (Shirley) Crawford of Mound, Minn., and Lynn (Mary) Opsahl of Omaha, Nebr.; half-brothers Johnny, Randy, and Pete Crawford, all of Washington; nephews Rick (Kim) Crawford of Dorchester, Iowa, Rob (Amy Sanders) Crawford of Hesper, Ron Crawford of Decorah, Devin (Manuala) Crawford of Holzkirchen, Germany, niece Sarah (Scott Hirchley) Crawford of Clearwater, Minn. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Neva and Clinton Opsahl, his father Robert, half-brother Mike Crawford; and great-niece Gina Cyza.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018, at the Mabel United Methodist Church in Mabel with Pastor Pamela Seebach officiating. Burial will be in the Mabel Public Cemetery, with military honors from the American Legion. Visitation will be 5–7 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
