Steven (Magilla) Wayne Lange

November 26, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal 1 Comment

Steve Lange obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Steven (Magilla) Wayne Lange was born on August 27, 1953, to Manley and Lorraine (Olson) Lange. He was the first of three children (including Deb and Scott). Steve was baptized and confirmed at Big Springs (St. Paul) Lutheran Church in rural Harmony. Steve graduated from Harmony High School in 1971. He later attended vocational school at Winona Vo Tech for agriculture, and the Minneapolis School for Barbering. He returned home to farm alongside his father on the family dairy farm in 1976.

Steve married Lori Anderson from Pilot Mound, Minn., at the United Methodist Church in Chatfield, Minn., on June 7, 1986, and together they welcomed three children: Ryan, Kyle and Carlie. The family made their home on the farm, where they operated a large dairy herd, until selling the cows in 1999. Steve and Lori later divorced.

After farming, Steve purchased a barbershop in Spring Grove, where he spent 26 years cutting hair, and becoming a beloved presence in the community. Known for his big smile, warm conversations, and easy laughter, Steve made everyone who walked through his door feel welcome. Even those who didn’t need a trim often stopped by just to visit, share stories, or enjoy a good laugh. Many of his grandchildren received their first haircut from Grandpa Steve.

Throughout his life, he made tons of friends. He was never one to shy away from a good time and crack a dad joke at the right time. Steve loved sports; he played high school football and also ran track. His coach gave him the nickname Magilla from the way he moved around on the gridiron; not sure if that was good or bad. He was a captain on the football team, his senior year. He enjoyed watching his kids play sports and all the activities they were in over the years. He paid very close attention to how his nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews did in all sports and activities in school, often calling his kids to make sure they kept him up to date on how they were all doing.

Steve was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and great-uncle. He cherished his family and time spent with them and will be greatly missed by all. Steve passed away suddenly at home on November 16, 2025.

Steve is survived by his three children: Ryan (Melinda) Lange, Kyle (Kiersten) Lange, and Carlie (Jarred) Lange; his grandchildren Brooks, Dylan, Karter, Kamryn, Elisia, Alivia, Jarred Jr., Mavren and Ilaria; a sister, Debbie Lange; and a brother, Scott (Julie) Lange; an uncle, Manford (Carol) Lange; along with many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who will forever remember his kindness and humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents Manley and Lorraine Lange, his grandparents, and his other aunts and uncles.

Per Steve’s request, there will be no service. A celebration of life will be held closer to spring, and will be announced on; www.roblefuneralhome.com.

Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is assisting the family with arrangements.
