I’m not surprised by Governor Walz’s announcement to drop his bid for re-election. The long-running reports of rampant fraud here in Minnesota are extremely concerning. Many of us have been sounding the alarm on fraud in government programs for years with minimal response from those responsible for oversight.
The administration’s lack of oversight is inexcusable. Their lack of cooperation with the legislature to work on solutions has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. This is not a partisan issue; fraud is fraud. People need to be held accountable, and Minnesotans deserve much better stewardship of their tax dollars. Additionally, I’m hearing from law-abiding businesses who are being negatively affected by the actions of the fraudsters, resulting in services being reduced or completely cutoff for Minnesotans who actually need them. Minnesotans deserve better.
Senate Republicans have offered a number of solutions to address pervasive fraud, including better accountability, tighter guardrails on government programs, and creating an Office of Inspector General. While these proposals were rejected in the past, I’m calling for Democrats and Republicans to make it a priority during the upcoming legislative session to work together and pass bipartisan solutions to address the rampant fraud issue in Minnesota. We owe it to the people of Minnesota to get this right and to hold people accountable.
