Paul Zager, project manager, reviewed the final layout for Trunk Highway 52 mill & overlay project through the city of Chatfield at the city council’s July 14 meeting. The state project will run from the southern city limits for about 1.2 miles through the city. Councilors Josh Broadwater and Pam Bluhm were absent.
Zager said the project includes the overlay of TH 52 and the frontage road near the historical marker. It will also include the replacement of a pedestrian ramp and culvert restoration near 1027 Main St. S. Zager listed some other items in the plan, including turn lanes that are to be adjusted, a box culvert to be replaced/extended, and a bypass lane at Hillside Dr. Zager noted they have been working with the city and others outside the city and have incorporated some of their requests into the plan.
All work within the city limits will be funded by MnDOT, other than costs associated with any city or private utility relocations/adjustments. The project work, Fountain to Chatfield, will begin in 2027 and run through 2028.
The state requested a consent waiver for portions of TH 52 that lie within the city limits. A resolution was approved waiving municipal consent for the improvement of TH 52 within corporate city limits.
