The Spring Valley City Council held a regular meeting on July 11. All council members were present (Mayor Tony Archer, John Dols, Chris Danielson, Luan Ruesink, and Greg Brooks), and City Administrator/Clerk Deb Zimmer participated as well.
A proposed purchase of a new dump truck for the city was discussed. A 2006 Mac dump truck was shown in a photo, available for $85,000. The council voted to OK the purchase (Danielson voted against).
There was discussion about the council changing the usual meeting schedule to hold meetings just once per month on a regular basis. Council members asked Deb Zimmer if this would create any problems regarding payment of city bills; she replied it would not. The council voted to hold meetings regularly on only the second Monday of each month, at 6 p.m., through the end if this year. Additional or special meetings will still be added if/when needed.
Chad Hindt, Streets Director, reported to the council on an “Electric Pump quote for a non-pot system repair.” He stated, “If we repair it, we don’t use city water. So it’s one of those where it pays for itself at the plant, over time.” The council approved the purchase, with a quoted price of $7,254.
The council passed Resolution 2022-22, appointing election judges for the 2022 Primary and General elections. The judges listed were: Amber Zigan, Gerald Wolf, and Jordan Leifort (Head Judges), as well as Shirley Gangstad, Diane Swenson-Sikkink, Pat Blahnk, Ann Thon, Patricia Schwartz, Noreen Hebig, Audrey Erickson, Mary Ann Schulz, Yvonne Kraling, and Brenda Brekke.
A quote from Roto-Rooter, for repair to the sanitary sewer, was considered. The quote states, “Kenilworth sanitary sewer point repair… We propose to install a 8”x4’ point repair in the sanitary sewer on Kenilworth Place NW for the cost of $4,950.” The council voted to approve.
Mayor Archer asked that citizens be mindful of creating excess noise. He stated, “Just because it’s summer, windows are open, doors are open, garage doors. Let’s try to keep the music down a little bit. People are turning their music up, and we’ve got an ordinance on that. So if you can kind of keep it at a minimum and not so late, that makes residents in the area happier.”
Council members voiced reminders to the community that the next “Wednesdays on Broadway” event is coming up (July 20) and they encouraged everyone to take part.
The next meeting of the Spring Valley city council will be 6 p.m. on Monday, August 8, at city hall. The public is welcome.
