Spring Grove Schools Special Election, November 7

October 23, 2023 by Charlene Corson Selbee Leave a Comment

Chairman Aaron Solum called the October 16 regularly scheduled meeting of the Spring Grove School Board to order at 7 p.m.

Board members present included Aric Elton, Stephanie Jaster, Kelly Rohland, Aaron Solum, Angie Solie and Student Representative Taylor Reinhardt. Absent was Rhan Flatin.

The Spring Grove School Board unanimously approved the agenda and the September 18 regular board meeting, the treasurer’s report, and approved paying the bills.

All three resolutions relating to the November 7 school district special election were approved including identifying the location for absentee voting. Members of the absentee ballot board are Cindy Thorson, Karen Fried, Rachel Bjerke, Jenny St. Mary, Rachel Udstuen, Krista Klug, Mike Wiste, Amy Sylling, Jana Elton and Erin Konkel. Election judges appointed to serve on election day are Jana Elton, Erin Konkel (Head Election Judge for day shift), Lee Hoekstra (Head Election Judge for evening shift), Liz Tostenson, Mike Wiste, Krista Klug, Evelyn Johnson, Marge Brevig, Amy Sylling and alternates Tom Falbo and Pat Falbo. Jana Elton, Karen Fried and Cindy Thorson were designated to deliver absentee ballots to hospital patients and residents of health care facilities.

Election judges will receive $15 per hour for training and for the day of the election. Head judge pay is $17 per hour on election day.

In other business, the board:

• Approved submitting the Minnesota State High School League Foundation (MSHAL) form A application for the 2023-2024 school year. According to MSHAL the funding “offsets student activity fees.”

• Authorized the school to submit the MSHAL form B for the 2023-2024 school year. MSHAL states that the grant is used to “fund seminars and training opportunities or support for specific school functions for students/faculty members/officials and others who are involved in athletic and fine arts programs.”

• Adjourned the meeting at 7:27 p.m. Kjelland stated that since he started working at the school this is a record.

The next regular meeting of the Spring Grove Public School Board is at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 20 in the school’s Learning Resource Center. The meeting is open to the public. In addition, the school continues to offer board meetings on Google Meet for anyone who would like to attend virtually. For assistance monitoring the meeting, contact the district office at (507) 498-3221 or email rachel.udstuen@springgrove.k12.mn.us.
