Spring Grove’s 39 kills were three times that of visiting Southland in the Section 1A Round of 16 volleyball match-up on Oct. 26. With the No. 4 section seed, the Lions improved to 22-6 by routing the Rebels, 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-16). No. 13 seed Southland (16-8) had defeated No. 20 Schaeffer Academy, 3-0, to advance to the Round of 16. Spring Grove has won all four matches since the Rebels rejoined the Southeast Conference.

Both teams had opened the season with a 3-0 Lion win at Southland. The Lion attack was more productive in this rematch (33% efficiency) than in that season lid-lifter (27%) while the Rebels again had more hitting errors than kills. Hailey Normann posted 9 kills with only 14 swings (64%). Kendal VanMinsel had 27 set assists as Jordis Neeley led scoring with 11 kills and a block while Joelle Halverson added 8 kills and a block. Katelyn Kraus contributed 3 kills (no errors) with only 5 attacks (60%).

Emerson Ingvalson served 23 for 24 with 4 aces, but serving was not a determining factor in scoring overall. The Lions finished with one more serving misfire (9) than aces (8). The Rebels served 7 aces with 6 errors. Izabel Kaufmann was the dig leader with 10.
