Both Spring Grove runs came without a hit in the third inning. Lydia Solum walked and later scored on an infield error. Kraus, who again reached base on a fielder’s choice, crossed home plate on a passed ball. Five times, Spring Grove batters reached base with walks and another with a Rebel error.
Southland scored 17 runs on eight hits, including a couple of doubles. The Rebels had two big innings, quickly taking charge with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. After going three-up, three-down in the second inning, the Rebels crossed home plate seven times in the third to go up, 16-2. A walk, an error and a single added the run that invoked the run-rule with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.
Southland improved to 5-0 (2-0 SEC), while Spring Grove sustained a third loss in as many games. This April 18 game, originally scheduled at Spring Grove, was moved to Rose Creek due to wet grounds at Spring Grove. The May 12 return matchup will now be a home game for the Lions.
