The Spring Grove volleyball girls celebrated 2023 Homecoming with a 3-0 whipping of Glenville-Emmons (25-17, 25-10, 25-13) before completing an SEC sweep at Lanesboro, 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-13). Both opponents struggled to return serve and initiate an offense. Overall, the Lions outscored the Wolverines, 75-40, and the Burros, 75-36. West Division G-E went home with a 6-18 (2-11) record. In the SEC East, second-place Spring Grove (16-5, 11-2 SEC) widened its lead over third-place Lanesboro (14-8, 7-6 SEC). It was the Lions’ 16th consecutive win against the Wolverines and sixth straight victory versus the Burros.

The Lions served 19 aces with only four errors, including a half-dozen aces from Emerson Ingvalson and four from Izabel Kaufmann (13 for 13 serving). Jordis Neeley led scoring with 12 kills (on only 21 attacks, 48% efficiency), a block and 3 aces. The match began with three Spring Grove hitting errors, but the Lions took 12 of the next 13 points and never trailed again. Grove led only 5-4 in the second set before an 11-to-2 scoring run. The Lions scored the first seven points in the final set.
The junior high Red won 2-0 with the Black Team losing their set. There as no B-team match versus G-E, but the B-girls remained undefeated while winning the Grand Meadow Tournament with victories over Lanesboro (2-0), Rochester Lourdes (2-0), LeRoy-Ostrander (2-0), Kingsland (2-0) and Lanesboro again in the finals (2-1).

Each team scored with three blocks, but the Lions had four times as many kills as did the host team (44-11) and three times as many service aces (12-4). The Burros had both 11 kills and 11 hitting errors and both 4 ace serves and 4 serving errors. Grove served twice as many aces (12) as errors (6). The Lions attacked with 32% efficiency with 44 kills and 14 misfires.
For the second time this season, Kendal VanMinsel supplied 35 set assists versus Lanesboro and this time 3 kills of her won while serving 100% (11 for 11) along with 8 digs. Sydney Holland was the dig leader with 11 with Kaufmann dug 8 times. Joelle Halverson matched the Burro team total while putting away 11 kills on only 19 swings (42% efficiency). Neeley led scoring with 9 kills (31% efficiency), 4 ace serves and a block assist. Ingvalson added another 9 kills (33%), Hailey Normann 6 (33%) and Katelyn Kraus 5 (33%).alverson had 11 kills
The undefeated B-team (17-0) completed a season sweep 2-1, and the C-team lost 0-2.
