Spring Grove girls coast past Cardinals in regular-season finale

November 2, 2021 by Lee Epps

The Spring Grove girls dominated a matchup between the two SEC division runners-up. The Lions thus closed the regular season with the straight-sets road win at LeRoy-Ostrander on Oct. 18. Spring Grove (18-9, 12-2 SEC East) then received the No. 4 seed in the 20-team Section 1A Tournament, which for the first time is scheduled in one large bracket instead of two sub-section brackets. LeRoy-Ostrander (12-11, 9-5 SEC) received the No. 11 seed. It was the Lion’s 13th consecutive volleyball victory versus the Cardinals.

Lion libero Maggie Lile, the team’s primary back-row passer, exceled with her usual all-around performance against LeRoy-Ostrander with 12 digs, 8 set assists and 4 kills.

The Lion B-team also defeated the Cardinals in straight sets – 25-14, 25-13 and finished the season with a 15-2 record, including a 12-1 conference mark. There was no C-team (freshman) match, but those Lion ladies had previously closed the campaign at 10-1 with a prefect 8-0 record against conference competition.
