The Spring Grove girls swept a May 16 softball double header against visiting Schaeffer Academy, 6-4 and 16-7. Both games were scheduled for five innings. Spring Grove was the home team (batting last) in the opener and the visiting team (batting first) in the nightcap.

Spring Grove scored in the first inning of each game and never trailed. The Grove girls improved to 5-9 while the visiting Lions remained winless at 0-15 as the regular season came to a close.
A quick Lions versus Lions rematch follows in the Sub-section 1A East Tournament play-in game as No. 8 seed Spring Grove hosts No. 9 seed Schaeffer Academy on May 19.
GAME ONE: SG 6, SA 4
Jada Strinmoen and Katelyn Kraus batted 2-for 3, accounting for all four Spring Grove base hits. The first four SG batters scored for a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. A walk to Maggie Lile was followed by a Strinmoen double, a two-RBI single from Kraus and walk to Addyson McHugh and later a Schaeffer error.
After Schaeffer got two runs back in the second inning, Grove was unable to score even after back-to-back lead-off hits from Strinmoen and Kraus. However, SG would add two runs in the third frame without a base hit (hit batter, two walks) to lead 6-2.
Schaeffer out-hit SG, 6 to 4, and again got back within two runs in the final inning, but could never make up for the early four-run deficit. Strinmoen picked up the pitching win.
GAME TWO: SG 16, SA 7
Spring Grove led 4-1 before erupting for nine runs in the top of the third inning. Seven SG batters contributed to the nine-hit total. McHugh and Sydney Holland (2 RBI) each went 2 for 3. Emerson Ingvalson (1 for 3) blasted a two-RBI triple and would soon score herself as SG jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Schaeffer came to bat. Kylie Reynolds had a double as Grove tacked on three insurance runs in the fourth frame. Joelle Halverson (1 for 1) contributed an RBI single to the big nine-run explosion. Other base hits came from Kraus and Kenadee Gerard.
Eighth grader Brinley Middendorf was the winning pitcher, allowing only 4 earned runs while walking five and striking out five.
