Spring Grove boys brand Burros again

February 22, 2024 by Lee Epps

Ben Udstuen

Spring Grove, despite its coldest shooting night of the season, completed a conference sweep at Lanesboro, 54-30. Jaxon Strinmoen had 13-point, 13-rebound double-double plus a team-high 5 steals. Elijah Solum led all scorers with 15 points while Isaac Nerstad netted 9 points. The Lions dominated the backboards, 43-26, with Ben Udstuen grabbing rebound honors by grabbing 7 caroms to go with a career-high 5 assists.

The state-ranked No. 13 Lions improved to 11-1, 9-1 SEC with this 22nd straight win against the Burros, including a 64-30 home decision earlier this season. Lanesboro dropped to 3-9, 3-7 SEC). The Grove guys shot a season-low 30% from the field, but the Burros managed only 27% overall and a frigid 12% from 3-point land (2 for 17). Lanesboro also struggled to get shots with 16 Spring Grove steals contributing to 22 Lanesboro turnovers.

Wade Grinde’s guys scored the first five points and led by 10 at halftime (26-16). The second half began with a Mason Howard 3-ball to get the Burros back within seven. But that is as close they would come, and Spring Grove would seize complete control with a 15-point run in the second half.

The Lion B-team also completed a season sweep of Lanesboro, 33-27.
