Sonova Egge Johnstone

June 24, 2019 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal, Sonova Egge Johnstone obituary

Sonova Egge Johnstone passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 25, 2018, at the age of 76.

Kind, smart, loving, generous, thoughtful, beautiful, fun, and supportive were just a few of Sonova’s immeasurable qualities.

Sonova grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1960. After high school, she attended St. Olaf College and graduated in 1964. She later achieved her Master’s Degree in California and enjoyed a long and happy teaching career educating students and teachers alike for the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Throughout her youth, she excelled at many activities. On a whim, she decided to try out for cheerleading and was on cheerleading teams all through high school and college. Her love of music led her to playing the flute in band and singing in the choir.

One of her favorite things to do was to spend summers on the lake in Minnesota with family. Many a holiday was spent with her parents Marian and Dwaine Egge, and with her brothers Bill, Craig, and Trygve. A few of her other joys were cooking new recipes, gardening, reading and sharing books, and redecorating her home.

Sonova loved kids most of all and would drop everything to spend time with them. Most important to her were her two sons, Eric and Karl; and grandkids Lily, Riley, and Kai.

Family meant everything to Sonova. She always did what she could to make time for everyone. She was no stranger to marathon conversations over the phone and in person at many a family gathering. You could always count on her for excellent advice.

If you knew Sonova, you knew her beautiful laugh, big smile, and those bright blue eyes that could bring warmth to anyone’s heart. Her big heart was only equaled to her sharp mind. Always leaning to optimism, expressed by her joyous laughter and sense of humor. She was never one to judge but suffered no fools.

She will always be loved and forever missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held at Chatfield Lutheran Church on June 28, 2019, at 1 p.m.
