Solum Doesn’t Miss, Pours in 33 Points against Hurricanes

February 16, 2024 by Lee Epps

Elijah Solum

Elijah Solum hit all 12 shots from the field and all of his five free throws while amassing a career-high 33 points, one fewer than the Houston team during Spring Grove’s 82-34 road win. It was the 10th game of the season for the Lions but only the second for Solum, who was recently cleared to play after months on the injured list.

The Lions shot a season-high 42% beyond the 3-point arc (8 for 19), a season-best 55% overall from the field and a season-best 83% from the free throw line (10 for 12). Solum hit half of those Spring Grove triples (4 for 4). Spring Grove improved to 9-1 overall, including a 7-1 conference record. Houston dropped to 5-6, 3-5 SEC.

Four Lions scored in double figures with 13 points each from Isaac Nerstad and Jaxon Strinmoen along with 10 points and a team-high 6 rebounds from Ben Udstuen. The Grove defense came away with 23 steals, which contributed to 19 fast-break points. Udstuen and Jacob Olerud each had 5 thefts. Olerud added a team-high 4 assists.

The Lions never trailed and outscored the Hurricanes, 41-17 in each half. The Lions led 20-13 before making it a blowout with a 16-point run.

The Lion B-team (6-2) cruised to a 75-12 win with a 22-point performance from Devon Williams. The Lion eighth graders won, 40-37, as did the seventh graders, 56-29.
