Softball: Streak Ends But Warriors Sweep LC/H
Caledonia softball could not quite do what their baseball team did, and keep winning. The Warriors (10-1) success streak of 10 games ended versus #7 in AA Stewartville (9-1) on a cold, windy Monday. In the sixth inning, with two out, the Tigers had back-to-back infield ground balls where the throw to first pulled Caledonia’s baseman off the bag. The second play was very close. On it, the first runner who reached scored from second, which proved to be the game-winning run. An out would have been out number three. The score put the Tigers up 2-1, which stood as the final. The game was a pitching duel between Warrior Braelyn Lange (7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 12 K, Loss) and Tiger Addelyn Eckerman (7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 14 K, Win). Lange (1-3, RBI) and Annah Anderson (1-2, R) got the Warriors their run. Chad Augedahl’s group responded by sweeping La Crescent/Hokah in a doubleheader on a wet Thursday. Game one was tied 3-3 after four. Caledonia had a three-run fifth and led 6-4 after five, then a four-run seventh, winning 10-4. Avery Augedahl (3-4, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R) and Lange (2-4, HR, 3 RBI, R) each went yard. Lange (7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 13 K, Win) improved to 7-2 on the mound. Anderson (3-4, 2B, RBI, 3 R), Kennedy Hansen (3-5, R), Elsa Blum (2-5, 2B) and Paizley Lange (1-2, R) helped. In Game two, Caledonia had seven doubles or triples. They built a 9-0 lead after three and prevailed 12-5. Adrienne Lange was 4-for-4 (2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R) and Vivian Kittleson 3-for-3 (2B, RBI, 2 R) to lead the way. Augedahl (7 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 K) collected the win to improve to 5-0. She also had two extra base hits (2-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 R). B-Lange had one hit but drove in four runs (1-4, 2B).
