Houston Ups Win Streak to Five

Houston mercy-ruled three foes on the week to up their win streak to five. Alden-Conger/G-E fell 27-2 in four innings. Kylie Stinson (4-5 two 2B, 3B, 8 RBI, 4 R), Claire Frauenkron (4-5, 3B, HR #2, 5 RBI, 3 R, 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K), Julia Swenson (4-5, two 2B, 4 RBI, 4 R), and Rylee Boldt (4-4, 2B, 3 RBI, 5 R) all had huge games. Olivia Yohe (2-2, 3B, 2 RBI, 4 R), Caidence Frauenkron (3-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, R), and Emily Botcher (3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, Win) helped. Schaeffer Academy then fell 22-4 in four innings. Stinson (3-3, two 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Caid. Frauenkron (3-3, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 3 R) did the biggest work. Cl. Frauenkron (2-3, two 2B, RBI, R), Boldt (2-3, 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 R), Caitlin Brand (2-2, 2B, 2 RBI), Kayla Klunder (2-2, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R), and Botcher (4 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, Win) helped. Josh Swenson’s group then beat SG 12-1 in five. Aspen Peterson (2-3, two 2B) drove in six. Botcher (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K) got the win. Cl. Frauenkron (1-1, RBI, 2 R) and Boldt (1-2, RBI, 2 R) helped. Sydney Holland (1-2) had a double for SG. The Hurricanes (9-2, 14-3) trailed Southland (11-1, 13-3) in the SEC.

#5 Warriors, #8 Gophers Fall in Big Matchups

Class AA #5 Caledonia and #8 Chatfield dropped notable big games on the week. The TRC-East leading Warriors (10-1, 12-1) fell to East second place Dover-Eyota (7-2, 9-4). The Eagles scored in the first without a hit and in the seventh with their only hit. Warrior Nora Staggemeyer (2-3, RBI) doubled in Paizley Lange (2-3, R) in the bottom of the seventh for the Warriors only run. Staggemeyer was left on second base. The Eagles prevailed 2-1. Pitchers Avery Augedahl (7 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, Loss) and Aubrey Foster (7 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, Win) were the stories.  The Eagles then battled Chatfield in a key West battle. D-E led 4-3 after five, only for the teams to score 17 runs in the final two innings! D-E built 9-3 and 13-7 leads in the top half of those innings. Chatfield scored four in their last at bat, had the tying run up, but fell 13-11. D-E’s last nine runs were unearned. Chatfield walked 10, D-E three. The teams combined for 30 hits. Kendyl Nolte (4-5, three 2B) had five RBI for Chatfield. Brynn Horsman (4-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Olivia Karver (2-4, 3 R), Kendall Knutson (1-4, 3 R), Makenna Dornack (1-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R), and Brittin Ruskell (1-5, 2B, RBI) also did work. Olivea Banitt (3-4, two 2B, 5 RBI, 2 R) and Miranda Palmby (2-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, R) led the Eagles. Caledonia also fell at #1 in AA Randolph, 6-2. Three Warrior errors enabled a five-run Rocket third. Elsa Blum (2-3, 2B, 2 R), Vivian Kittleson (2-3, 2B, RBI), P-Lange (2-3, 2B), and Augedahl (6 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, Loss) led the Warriors.  Rocket Carter Raymond (7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, Win) struck out 15. Elsewhere, Chatfield beat FC/L 13-2 while Caledonia topped Lourdes 20-4 and FC/L 21-1 (See “Softball” for more). D-E (10-2, 13-4) now leads Chatfield (10-3, 14-3) in the West. The Gophers have been without top pitcher Rylee Urban since April 21. The Warriors (11-2, 13-3) are tied with La Crescent/Hokah (11-2, 12-5) atop the East.
