The pushing, dumping or depositing of snow from any driveway onto a public road is unlawful (Minnesota Statute 160.27). Snow dumped on right of ways can create a real hazard not only for motorists but also for snowplows. Even heavy snowplows have been ditched and damaged when hitting compacted and frozen snow, rock and other unauthorized obstructions. In some cases, snow pushed onto a highway causes snowdrifts which are hazardous to motorists. The person responsible for depositing snow, rock or unauthorized obstructions may also be liable in a civil lawsuit if damages or injuries occur as a result of this action.
We urge you, as good neighbors and motorists, not to add to the hazards of winter driving.
