Scott Neil Rowland, age 49, of Chatfield, passed away in his sleep on March 20, 2026, at his home.
Scott was born on October 9, 1976, in Rochester to Neil and Rosalie (Gossman) Rowland. Scott was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield. He attended school in Chatfield and was a Chatfield High School graduate in 1995, active in multiple sports and other extracurricular activities, always surrounded by friends. After graduation he joined the family business Rowland Well Company of Chatfield where he worked alongside family and served the entire Southeast Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Tara Kessel on September 21, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield. They later divorced but remained strong in parenting their son Alex.
Scott was a devoted fan of Dale Earnhart Jr., an avid hunter and enjoyed being outdoors. Known for his competitive spirit, he found joy (depending on who won) during an evening of “friendly” family Fortnite, a round of HORSE during downtime in the shop or seeing who brought home the most during a recent casino run. He was happiest when surrounded by good family and friends, and he truly cherished his early morning phone calls with his close friends – every single day! A dedicated father and uncle, Scott was an active force in the lives of all the children he cared about, but above all, the moments he treasured most was the time spent with or talking about his son. He deeply loved his entire family and will always be remembered for smile, blue eyes under sunglasses, big personality and legendary one-liners.
While there were so many things important to Scott, his biggest pride was the family business! Scott was relentless with trying to keep all customers happy and get the water flowing, whether it be a decades-long customer or a completely new name or face! Always answering his phone at any time ready to help. Recently Alex and nephews Carson and Louis had come on board to the business, and he was so proud to see the fourth generation learn to be the future of Rowland Well! You could always find him giving the boys “SECRETS” (as Scott would say) to the trade, while brothers Adam and Ben would roll their eyes and smile!
He leaves behind his son Alex and his mom Rosie Rowland of Chatfield, brothers Adam (Trista) and Ben Rowland, both of Chatfield, niece McKenzie (Landon) Bance of Zumbrota, nephews Carson and Louis Rowland of Chatfield and great-nephew Kainen Bance of Zumbrota. He is further survived by aunts and uncles Doug (Kimi) Rowland and Steve (Nancy) Rowland, all of Chatfield, and Carol (Dick) Collett of Preston, many other loving cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father Neil on April 15, 2024, and both his maternal and paternal grandparents. A visitation gathering and celebration of Scott will be held at the Hoff Funeral Home in Chatfield on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 4-7 p.m.
A private family burial will take place in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chatfield at a later date.
