Scott Allen Matter, 38, of Rushford, Minn., died in his home on March 8 after battling brain cancer for 13 years.
Scott was born to Thomas and Susan (Heiden) Matter on September 26, 1981. Scott graduated from Farmington High School in 2000. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Brown College. Scott moved to Austin, Minn., where he met his wife Christina Matter. They were married in 2012. After the birth of their daughter Ava, they moved to Rushford, Minn. Scott worked at Fastenal in Winona for five years. Scott loved riding bike, playing guitar and harmonica, and was a talented stone carver. Scott was a member of Root River Community Church in Rushford. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Hollis Heiden, Roger and Dorothy Matter, grandfather-in-law Francis Bowe, and grandmother-in-law Marian Ketchum.
Scott is survived by his loving wife Chrissy (Bowe) Matter, daughter Ava Matter, age 7; mother and father Tom and Sue Matter, brothers Eric (Sara) Matter, and Michael (Casey) Matter; nephews Nathan and Tyler and niece Taylor Matter, grandmother Joanne Heiden, mother- and father-in-law Dan and Kim Bowe, brothers-in-law Jason and Josh Bowe, and grandfather-in-law Bill Ketchum, as well as many other family and friends.
Scott donated his body to Mayo Clinic in hopes that his death would help save others. This was his final gift. A special thank you to the Mayo Clinic for all their care over the years, as well as Mayo Clinic Hospice for helping Scott realize his wish to be home for his final days. A private celebration of life ceremony will be set at a later date.
