Sandra J. Wenig, 79, of Spring Grove, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 at Gundersen Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove.
Sandra was born February 26, 1943, in Spring Grove, Minn., to Clarence and Martha (Haugstad) Garness. She graduated from the Spring Grove High School. On April 18, 1964, she married Romaine Wenig. They lived in South Carolina before moving to Rockford, Ill. There, she worked in the banking and insurance business. In 2000, they moved back to Spring Grove where she worked at Jennings State Bank.
Sandra was a woman of great faith and was an active member at the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Rockford and then the Caledonia United Methodist Church. She held several positions in both churches and enjoyed playing with the bell choir. She enjoyed traveling, baking, and cooking, and treasured her family and friends.
Romaine passed away January 5, 2020.
Sandra is survived by her sisters Charmaine Blagsvedt, Susan (Barry) Dahl, Linda (Larry) Seegmiller, and Pam (Charles) Lamb; a brother, David (Stephanie) Garness; brother and sisters-in-law Roland (Kay) Wenig, Duane (Lela) Wenig, Barbara Boyle, and Dorothy (Al) Oesterle; many nieces and nephews, several special godchildren, and Tim, who was like a son to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Romaine, her parents Clarence and Martha, mother and father-in-law Franklin and Erma Wenig, brothers-in-law Ordell Blagsvedt, Charles Boyle, and Robert Opsahl; and many special family members.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 20s at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer. Visitation will be 9:30-11a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the St. John’s Methodist Cemetery in rural Dorchester, Iowa. The Mengis Funeral home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
