Ruth Marie Miehlisch

September 21, 2020 by Fillmore County Journal

Ruth Miehlisch obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Ruth Marie Miehlisch, 82, of rural Lanesboro, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2020, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

Ruth Schewe was born May 1, 1938, in Sleepy Eye, Minn., to Stan and Muriel (Hier) Schewe.  She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School and was crowned homecoming queen. She loved her career as a pediatric nurse after obtaining her LPN Degree in New Ulm.  On November 4, 1961, she married Helmut Miehlisch (a handsome German intern at her parents’ turkey farm) in Sleepy Eye.  The newlyweds moved to Germany for three years, again working with turkeys and becoming a family. When an opportunity to purchase a turkey farm near Lanesboro presented itself, they took the chance, site unseen! They have been at this farm on Fox Road since 1965, happily surrounded by turkeys, horses, family and friends.

Ruth enjoyed walks in nature, gardening, reading, making her house a home, serving excellent hotdishes and lemon pound cake and so much more. Most of all, she loved animals especially dogs and thus will be thoroughly missed by the four-legged crowd.

Ruth is very much missed by her husband Helmut, sons Eric (Andrea) and Jork (Sue), both of Lanesboro; grandchildren Katarina (Jesse) Amdahl, and Wyatt and Colby Miehlisch; her niece Candy Larro, brother Charles Schewe, and sister Ginger Isder.  She is now united in death with her parents and grandson Christopher.

Visitation will be Sunday September 27, 2020, from 1-3 p.m. at Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an organization of your choice or the Salvation Army in the memory of Ruth.  To share a condolence or memory with the family, please visit rileyfuneralhomes.com.
