Russell G. Bremseth

August 5, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal

Russell Bremseth obituary, Fillmore County JOurnal

Russell G. Bremseth, age 68, of Cresco, Iowa, died Thursday, July 31, 2025, at his home in Cresco.

Memorial services for Russell Bremseth will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at First Congregational Church in Cresco, Iowa, with Pastor Tim Sir officiating. Visitation was held at the church from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday.

Russell Gerard Bremseth was born on October 31, 1956, in Fillmore County, Minn., son of LeRoy and Teresa (Kingsley) Bremseth.  Russell grew up and graduated high school in Harmony, Minn.  At a neighbor’s birthday party while Russell was playing “pin the tail on the donkey” with some kids, his path crossed with Dianne Allison.  The couple went on a date where love blossomed, and after a short engagement, Russell married Dianne on May 31, 1996.  They raised four boys together: Jimmy, Richard, Daniel, and Russell Jr.  Russell was a great example of what a father should be to his boys; he was serious but loving, very hard working, and helped anyone in need.  Russell looked forward to camping and fishing trips with his family.

Russell worked various jobs over the years, but most recently he welded for Alum-Line Inc. in Cresco.  His coworkers nicknamed him “Homer.”  He also drove for the Amish, creating many friendships.  Russell was very handy and enjoyed carpentry work and tinkering on vehicles.  He cheered on the Minnesota Vikings, various WWE wrestlers, and NASCAR driver Tony Stewart.  Russell also liked to watch Westerns with “Gunsmoke,” “Bonanza,” and “The Rifleman” being a few of his favorites.

Most important in life was his family.  He dedicated himself to Dianne and lived all his marriage vows daily.  He cared for his mother after his father died; taking the time to mow her lawn in the summer and shovel snow in the winter.  He loved to reminisce about growing up and his parents.  He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, and creating fun nicknames for them.

Russell is survived by his beloved wife Dianne Bremseth of Cresco, Iowa; sons Jimmy (Becky) Allison of Peoria, Ill., Daniel (Emily) Allison of Cresco, and Russell Junior Bremseth of Cresco; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, brother Joe (Karen) Bremseth of San Diego, Calif., and sister Rosie Bremseth of Kerrville, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard Allison, and sister Debra (Jon) Elliott.
