Rosemary “Rosie” VonWald, 83, of Chatfield died peacefully at the Chosen Valley Care Center on Monday, September 25, 2023.
Rosemary Adams was born on May 29, 1940, in Palestine, Ill., to Milo and Ruby Adams. Rosie attended Palestine High School, where she graduated at the age of 16. After graduation, she took a job as a secretary at the VA in Chicago, where her sister Betty was currently residing. During her time in Chicago, she met the love of her life, Richard Evan VonWald II. Shortly after this, they moved to Minnesota where they were married on June 20, 1958, in Eyota, Minn.
Rosie and Richard “Dick” made a living in the rural Chatfield area where Rosie spent much of her time caring for their three children: Rick, Tami and Teri, as well as caring for their family farm. She was a hard worker that took pride in her family and their farm. Following Dick’s retirement, Rosie and Dick relocated to Mesa, Ariz., where they resided for over 30 years. During their time there, Rosie held many jobs, making many lifelong friends. Following Dick’s passing in 2008, Rosie returned to Minnesota to spend her time with her children and grandchildren.
Wherever Rosie was, she enjoyed being an avid Minnesota sports fan. She spent many of her days and nights watching the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. Additionally, she loved to play bingo. She would play bingo many nights of the week, even having her own special seat saved for her at the local VFW. She also enjoyed playing a game of cards like Bridge or 500. Most of all, Rosie enjoyed her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She would speak of them often, especially their accomplishments in their sports and activities, as she was always so incredibly proud.
Rosie is survived by her three children: Rick (Deb) VonWald of Mesa, Ariz., Tami (Tim) Larson of Chatfield, and Teri Jarland of Harmony, Minn.; and sister Betty Soulis of Deepwater, Mo. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Billie Tweten (Cory), Kristi (Jerod) Rindels, Trevor (Chelsea) Larson, Evan (Lynn) VonWald, Taylor (Brittney) Jarland, Tyler Larson, Ashley (Dylan) Hansen, Jordan Jarland and Emily (Sam) Brekke. She was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren. In-laws left to remember her include Charles VonWald, Nancy Moore, Myrna Johnson and Richard Fix.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard, parents Milo and Ruby, brothers Richard, Charlie and George Adams; son-in-law Brett Jarland, brother-in-law Sam Soulis and sisters-in-law Faye and Rhea Adams.
Memorial services are planned for Monday, October 2 at 11 a.m. at Chatfield Lutheran Church, with visitation being one hour prior to the service. A private burial ceremony will take place after the memorial luncheon.
Riley Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the VonWald family with arrangements. Online condolences are welcome at rileyfuneralhomes.com.
