Ronald Ray “Rotten” Strong

September 29, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal - Ronald Ray Strong Obituary

Ronald Ray “Rotten” Strong, 70, of St. Augustine, Fla., lost his long fought battle with depression on Saturday July 17, 2021.

Ron was born in La Crosse Wis., on September 13, 1950, to Ray and Bonnie (Hansen) Strong.

Although Ron was born in Wisconsin, he was a diehard Vikings fan. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR. Ron’s adult life began in the twin cities as a welder, but the warm climate of Florida lured him south where he enjoyed a long career in sales.

Ron was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He helped raise money for several charities like Toys for Tots and K-9s for Vets by organizing countless bike rallies. He rode his beloved Harley Davidson every chance he could. The last few years of his life, Ron would return to Minnesota for the warmer months and help care for his mother. Ron loved being on the farm with his mom. He would fish with friends and family and was always willing to catch you some dinner. He loved getting together with his family and friends, he especially liked playing euchre with whomever would play. Rotten also enjoyed causing havoc at the bingo hall (O69!).

Ron will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, his fiancee, also his numerous family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Ginny Tipple of Anoka, Minn., his son Ron (Lori) Shelby of Brooklyn Park, Minn., his fiancee Lisa Green of St. Augustine, Fla., his grandchildren Dylan Tipple and Zachary, Samuel, and Maxwell Shelby; two brothers, John (Lynn) Tschumper and Steve (Mary) Tschumper of Houston, Minn.; eight sisters: Susan (Mike) Carpenter of Caledonia, Minn., Patti (Mike) Huish of Mesa, Ariz., Bonnie (David) Wardwell of Rollingstone, Minn., Mary (Dan) Friesen of Houston, Minn., Gina (Jim) Johnson of Kempner, Tex., Lisa Onsgard of Houston, Minn., Rose (John) Gardner of Rochester, Minn., and Adele (Paul) Gee Houston, Minn.; sister-in-law Betsy Nelson of French Island, Wis., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray Strong, and Bonnie and Norbert Tschumper; two brothers, Alan Strong and Tom Tschumper; and brother-in-law Owen Onsgard.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 1-4 p.m. at the Houston American Legion, 121 S. Grant Street.
