Roger Gene Jensson, 84, of Grand Meadow, Minn., died Saturday, August 1, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Roger was born November 28, 1935 in Grand Meadow, Minn., the son of Reuben and Olga (Gunvalson) Jensson. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1953. He joined the Marines in 1955, where he served in the “Black Knight” Squadron VMF (AW) 314 as a jet mechanic. He had risen to the rank of Sergeant when he was honorably discharged in 1959.
Roger married Ellen Lois Colburn on June 24, 1960, in Fredericksburg, Iowa. They moved to the family farm in 1965 where they raised four kids, milked cows, raised hogs, cattle, and crops before retiring in 1984. He then went to work for Osmundson Brothers rock quarry before retiring from there in 2002. He enjoyed farming, fishing, dancing, music, reading, and especially ice cream. He especially enjoyed visiting with people, spending time with his family and granddaughters.
Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ellen Jensson of Grand Meadow; daughter Melanie Mergen (David) of Bloomington, Wis., son Matthew Jensson (Angela) of Cambria, Wis., daughter Rhonda Jensson of Grand Meadow, son Ryan (Nicole) Jensson of Stewartville, Minn.; and five granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reuben and Olga Jensson, three sisters, Evelyn, Rosella and Alice; and one brother Milo.
A private family service is planned for Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow, Minn. Interment will be at the Osage cemetery in Osage, Iowa, immediately following the service.
