Roger Arndt obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Roger Allen Arndt was born to George and Ruth Arndt, in Winona, Minn., on January 18, 1952, and met his creator on April 23, 2024, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.

After graduation from Winona Senior High School in 1970, he studied auto mechanics at Winona Technical School, graduating in 1972. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany as a hawk missile crewman. Returning to Minnesota, he was in the Reserve and then volunteered with the National Guard as a mechanic. In 1978, he married Christine (Kris) Norton. They later divorced. Roger was employed many years by Whetstone Towing and then Yellow Cab of Winona as their mechanic. His specialty was electronic and he kept his skills current with continuing education courses. He also did mechanic work for friends and family on his own time. Many will remember Roger as an honest, hardworking mechanic and friend. He was a member of the American Legion in Houston, Minn.

Survived by brother Dick (Mary), sister Cheryl (Darwin), nieces Julie (Seth) and Barb (Cliff), nephew Rich (Aune) and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, special friends Jim/Mary, Lisa, Ronnie, Cheryl Boo; and numerous other friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife Kris, great-nephew Kyle, many uncles and aunts and his beloved dog Fred.

Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn., with full military honors on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. Celebration of life will be held at the American Legion in Houston, Minn., following the burial.
