Richard Alan Osmundson, 88, of Eagan, Minn., died on December 30, 2023, with his wife LeaEtta at his side, on their 67th wedding anniversary.
He was born in Spring Grove, Minn., on July 22, 1935, to Jeremiah F. and Alma J. (Quandahl) Osmundson and grew up on a nearby farm in Highlandville, Iowa. Richard graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1954. From 1954-1956 he served in the U.S Army with a Nike missile defense unit. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with degrees in elementary and agricultural education. Richard began his teaching career at Cannon Falls Elementary, and went on to teach at Moreland Elementary in West St. Paul, before finishing his career at Pilot Knob Elementary School in Eagan.
Richard had many interests in life, including beekeeping, gardening, hunting and fishing. He had the ability to fix or build just about anything around the house with his carpentry, mechanical, and electrical knowledge. A favorite hobby of his was restoring cars. Richard was a past president of the national Nash Metropolitan Club and was very active in the Minnesota chapter.
He is survived by his wife, LeaEtta (McMillen), his children, Glenn (Martha) Osmundson of Cumberland R. I., Pauline (Dave) Schau, of Eagan, Minn., and Beth Osmundson, of Lakeville, Minn., as well as 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by five sisters, Jaerdis E. Olson Nesheim, Florence V. Thorson, Inez P. Sollien, Adele J. Burnett, and Sharon E. Schumacher. His brother Jerold Q. Osmundson died on January 17, 2024.
Plans for a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
