Richard “Dick” Johnson, age 86, of Harmony, Minn., passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at the Gundersen Harmony Care Center in Harmony, Minn. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony, followed by burial in Greenfield Cemetery, Harmony. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony is assisting the family.
Richard “Dick” V. Johnson was born May 21, 1931, in Spring Grove, Minn., to Willard and Muriel (Johnson) Johnson. He graduated from Harmony High School in 1949. In 1951 his family moved to Vancouver, Wash., where he met Barbara J. Weitzel. They were married in Portland, Oreg., on December 12, 1953. They moved to his hometown of Harmony in 1955 where he leased the Skelly and Standard service stations. He also worked at Peterson Ford Garage prior to being the custodian at the Harmony High School from 1971 until retiring in 1993. Post retirement he dedicated 18 years as custodian at Greenfield Lutheran Church. Dick’s biggest love was spending time with family. He also enjoyed golf, traveling, home projects and sharing a good story. His wife, Barbara was a professional dance teacher. It was while helping her teach dancing that Dick received the nickname Dancing Dick.
Dick is survived by his wife Barbara of Harmony; three children: Melodee (Bob) Muehlenkamp of Rosemount, Minn., Nacia (Scot) Golliher of Stewartville, Minn., and Bill (Suzanne) Johnson of Royal Oak, Mich.; six grandchildren: Nicole, Nacia, David, Rick, Derek, and Russell; two siblings: Nacia Johannsen and Roger (Marsha) Johnson. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard “Rick” Johnson and a brother-in-law, Gordon Johannsen.
