Richard “Dick” Jeffers

March 15, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Richard Jeffers obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Richard “Dick” Jeffers, of Chatfield, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, with his family at his side.

Dick was born on August 1, 1944, to Lloyd and Aletha (Young) Jeffers in Rushford, Minn. He would share with others that he was born in the doctor’s office and then he was placed in a shoebox and his parents took him to the hospital in Winona. Dick graduated from Peterson High School. During high school he worked on a farm and lived with the family. After graduation he was employed by MnDOT for over 40 years. While working for MnDOT he also had his Jeffers Landscaping business and sold hay and straw. Dick retired from MnDOT and continued his landscaping business. Dick enjoyed taking fishing trips with his buddies to Canada and to Devil’s Lake, N. Dak., and going on casino bus trips. He looked forward to visiting with family and watching the kids running around the house and playing together. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch talking with everyone who walked by, and he loved watching Adrian’s sporting activities and talking to him daily.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Camille (Hackbarth) Jeffers; daughter Michelle (Andy) McDermott and their son Adrian of Rochester; son Brian (Barbara) Jeffers of Lanesboro and children Dustin, Jen, Luke, Melody and their children; brothers John (Greg) of New Hope, William (Carol) of Rushford, Tom (Jane) of Chatfield, and Chuck (Debbie) of Preston; sister Judy of Coon Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, half-brother Jimmy Garvalia, a niece and nephew.

A private family service was held at the Chatfield Cemetery, with Pastor Mark Docken and Nissa Peterson officiating.
