Reported missing adult male, Houston County

June 1, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

On Monday May 24, 2021, at approximately 11:05 p.m., the Houston County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an overdue adult male. It was reported that the family believed the male had been out mushroom hunting and failed to return home.

Deputies and La Crescent PD responded to the area on Chicken Ridge Road in rural Houston County. The male’s vehicle was located alongside the road in the area the family believed he would be mushroom hunting. Additional assistance was requested and a search of the area was initiated.

The area was searched by ground crews and with the assistance of the Minnesota State patrol flight division into the early morning hours.  The search was resumed again in the daylight on May 25, 2021, utilizing multiple agencies’ assistance.

Tragically, Jason Michael Moore, (47 years of age) was located deceased at approximately 2 p.m. by search personnel in a wooded area near the vicinity he was believed to be in.

Assisting with the search were: the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, La Crescent Police and Fire Departments, Hokah Fire Department, Brownsville Fire Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol.  Also assisting was the Houston County Sheriff’s Posse, Winona County Soar. Bloodhound assistance was also utilized from the Jackson County, Wisconsin Sherriff’s Office and a privately owned bloodhound out of Viroqua Wis.

Our condolences to Mr. Moore’s family and we thank the agencies involved for their assistance.
