Records Fall at Glen Amundsen Invite

April 24, 2023 by Paul Trende

The ball goes through at right, and Rushford-Peterson third baseman Caden Johnson is unable to tag out Mabel-Canton runner Tyler Larson. In a Monday non-conference game, the Trojans defeated the Cougars 12-3 behind Rylan Schneider’s complete-game, four-hit, win.

Three “Journal 11” track and field programs competed at Stewartville’s “Glen Amundsen” Invite and all three had kids break long-standing records. The GMLOKS girls 4×200, Caledonia/Spring Grove boys 4×100 and 4×200, and Chatfield boys 4×200 all broke records (albeit C/SG stayed better than the Gophers in the 4×200). The GMLOKS girls 4×200 is the defending state champion with three runners back (Anika Reiland, Chantle Reiland, Breeley Galle). With one new runner (Lydia Redman), the gals ran 1:48.50 to beat a Chatfield team from 1986 (1:48.94) for the 4×2 record. Anika Reiland also kept etching her name in record books, as she won the 100 in 12.72, breaking that long-standing meet mark (12.74) set in 1987. Reiland also won the 200 (26.98), where she already holds the Amundsen record (26.32 from 2019) while taking third in the Long Jump. McKenna Hendrickson (800 > 2.39.50, Pole Vault > 8’6”), Katelyn Hauser (100 hurdles > 17.54), Galle (**300 hurdles > 50.67), Rebecca Hoffman (Shot Put > 30’6”), and the 4×800 (Naomi Warmka, Kendyl Queensland, Lauren Queensland, Hendrickson > 10:46.63) also won events, helping the GMOKS team (215) take first over Chatfield (171) and Stewartville (98) while C/SG took sixth (of 6). C-Reiland (200), K-Queensland (High Jump, Triple Jump), Hauser (Long Jump), and Hoffman (Discus) added seconds for Aaron Thauwald’s group. Chatfield got firsts from Adia Evans (400 > 1:06.98), Lexi Kivimagi

GMLOK’s Sam Howard slides into third base but Spring Grove’s Nathan Solberg is going to record the out in the teams’ SEC match-up. The Lions opened the season with a 14-3 win in five innings over the Bulldogs, getting a win from Brandon Jahnke on the mound.

(1,600 > 5:49.19), Aletta Strande (3,200 > 12:54.75), and the 4×100 (Evy Goldsmith, Lauryn Daniels, Chloe Berg, Jaelyn LaPlante > 52.55). Strande (1,600) added a second. Arianna Dornink (800), Charlotte Oeltjen (3,200), Rebecca Copeman (100-H), Anna Kivimagi (**300-H), and Emma Mulhern (P-Vault) took second. **Only four girls competed in the 300-H. Ayshia Gay (3rd 200) was C/SG’s top individual gal performer. The 4×100 (Kloe Jore, Charlese Walk, Nicole Banse, Gay) also took third. On the guys side, the record to break was the 4×200, as Caledonia/Spring Grove (1:32.58 > Eli Staggemeyer, Owen Staggemeyer, Josh Beardmore, Fischer Wait) and defending section champ and state runner-up Chatfield (1:33.58 > Isaac Erding, Eli Hopp, Thad Evans, Sam Backer) each broke a mark (1:33.88) set by Byron in 2013. The C/SG boys 4×100 (44.48 > Staggemeyer, Ethan Stendel, Staggemeyer, Beardmore) also broke a meet record set by RPH in 1991 and Lourdes in 1985 (45.04). Second place Stewartville (44.56) also topped that mark. Beardmore (100 > 11.48) and Wait (400 > 51.79) added individual wins. Wait (100) and Stendel (High Jump) added seconds. Tysen Grinde (Long Jump) took second. GMLOKS got two firsts from Garrison Hubka (800 > 2:09, 1,600 > 4:39.29) and Zach Reiland (100 hurdles > 17.28, 300-hurdles > 43.24). Ayden Howard (Triple Jump > 39’7”), the 4×400 (Hubka, Andrew Imm, Odear Granle, Nathaniel Dreees > 3:40.35), and the 4×800 (Imm, Erik Shaw, Carter Glynn, Tate Georgen > 8:46.54) teams also took first. Howard (100-H, 300-H) and Glynn (3,200) added seconds. Chatfield’s Backer (200 > 23:07) also won an event individually. The Stewie guys (227) topped GMLOKS (175), C/SG (93), and Chatfield (68) in that six-team competition.
