Rebecca “Becky” Asleson died Saturday June 9, 2018, after a battle with cancer. She was 73.
Becky was born on November 22, 1944, to Cleo and Bernice Miller in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a Chosen Valley High School graduate and graduated with honors from Mankato State College in 1967, with a double major in Business Administration and History.
On July 1, 1967, she married the love of her life, Alton Asleson. Becky worked as a teacher for four years at Chosen Valley High School, then she devoted the next decade of her life to her daughters, Jonna and Jonell. Later, she would return to the teaching profession as a substitute teacher. She spent the last two decades of her career as an accountant at Agstar.
Becky enjoyed the time spent with family. She also enjoyed attending many of grandson Reece’s basketball games and lacrosse matches. Some of her pain was eased while watching her granddaughter Maya play and chatter with the dollhouse in her living room. She also spent time knitting, crocheting, gardening and she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher. She spent her Sunday afternoons as a long-suffering Minnesota Vikings fan.
Survivors include daughter Jonna (Howard) Washington, daughter Jonell (Patrick) Haider, brother Reagan (Diane) Miller, grandchildren Monty Washington, Reece Washington, and Maya Washington; and many surviving nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alton, brother Ronald, and her parents.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Root Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Fountain, with Pastor Chris Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Root Prairie Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield and continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday at church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, Camp Companion of Rochester, or the Root Prairie Lutheran Cemetery Association.
