Restaurant owner Roumel Reynon does it right.
My wife and I recently visited Decorah, Iowa, for dinner at the Twin Springs Supper Club.
It’s a uniquely placed restaurant tucked back in the woods on what seems like a private drive. That uniqueness adds to the ambiance, as you drive by homes of distinction.
We had heard great things about the restaurant from our friends in Fountain, Minn., Eric and Sandy (owners of Karst Brewing). They raved about the steak and appetizers, so we had to check it out.
Twin Springs is a very busy restaurant, so you’ll always want to make a reservation. Don’t leave your hunger to chance.
When we arrived around 6 p.m., there were very few seats available. It was a popular place.

After we were seated and had placed our order, the owner walked around to introduce himself at every table. Mr. Roumel Reynon was extremely welcoming, and had a well-trained staff in the art of a high quality dining experience. Our friends, Eric and Sandy, were right. It was comparable to Manny’s Steakhouse in the Twin Cities.
We ordered steamed asparagus, which was topped with a homemade béarnaise sauce. Absolutely delicious. In addition, we ordered the bacon brussels sprouts. Funny thing is that I (like most kids), never liked brussels sprouts. As I’ve aged, they’ve grown on me. I think part of the reason is that somebody decided to add bacon to the equation. As famous comedian Jim Gaffigan has said, bacon makes everything better. Brussels sprouts are winning because of bacon.
For our main course, my wife ordered the cedar roasted salmon and I ordered the Filet de Mar.
We were both happy with our choices. Her salmon was perfect, and my steak was prepared exactly as a medium rare steak should be. And, the great thing is that we didn’t feel overly full. It was the right amount of food, like a typical gourmet meal.
And, we still had room for dessert. We ordered the crème brûlée, which was candied to perfection. We would have taken one to go to share with our kids, but crème brûlée is best served in the restaurant.
There are so many great dining options in Bluff Country, and now we have another one.
My wife and I would highly recommend Roumel Reynon’s Twin Springs Supper Club in Decorah, Iowa. And, we’d suggest you save room for dessert.
