We’ve had a few breweries pop up in the Fillmore County area in the past five years, which is quite a draw for tourists and locals alike.
One in Chatfield, Fountain, Preston, and Lanesboro.
In the 2020-2021 Visit Bluff Country Magazine, there was even a brewery, distillery, and wine tour map dedicated to promoting these venues.
In Preston, Minn., they are fortunate to have a local brewery known as Trout City Brewing, owned by Andy and Anita Bisek.
And, the Fillmore County Journal is fortunate to be located right next door to this establishment. Their brewery brings a crowd to Preston, the Trout City Capital, year-round.
It’s great for the community in so many ways, bringing people to the downtown area. And, while brewery enthusiasts are taste-testing the products, they get a flavor of what other businesses are operating in the community. From Urban Artifacts to JuliaClaire Boutique to Preston Floral & Gift, and many businesses in between, downtown Preston has so much to offer.
What I love about Trout City Brewing is that they have great beer, even though their sign says “Just Good Beer.” It’s great beer, by my standards! I like the Egomaniac, a rye IPA.
But, what I also love is their food.
Our entire staff at the newspaper has made a trip over to Trout City Brewing at some point each week to pick up a Swedish meatball sandwich, quarter pound hot dog, quarter pound chili cheese dog, smoked Polish sausage, pulled pork sandwich, or chicken salad sandwich.
I’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu. I’d highly recommend the Rueben dip.
Recently, I stopped by on a Friday, and picked up the smoked Polish sausage on a white bun with a side of coleslaw, kettle chips, and a pickle.
How many places can you get a Polish sausage anymore? Not many. And, Polish sausage has such a distinct flavor compared to hot dogs and bratwursts. It has its own category.
While I’d highly recommend visiting Trout City Brewing for the beer, I’d also suggest planning your lunch schedule around a trip to the brewery.
What’s really nice for Preston is that there is an eclectic mix of dining options, and they all offer something different to satisfy a variety of cravings.
