Houston County Public Health & Human Services has received confirmation of a second death due to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, of a Houston County resident. The individual was a female resident in her 80s. Our hearts go out to all the loved ones and care givers affected by this tragic death, and to all those suffering from this virus.
Houston County Public Health & Human Services strongly urges all residents to take the threat of this virus seriously. As noted by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the spread of COVID-19 is growing throughout rural Minnesota and surrounding Midwestern states. As the season changes and people spend more time indoors, it is even more important to make active effort to avoid crowds, maintain social distance of at least 6 feet whenever possible, wear masks or other face coverings that cover the mouth and the nose, and practice frequent hand washing. As of October 22, Houston County has had 186 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and more than 120 new cases in the last two months. Confirmed cases range in age from seven to 98 years.
