Magdlin-Gilbertson Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post #6893 of Preston was visited on Tuesday, October 4, by Karen England from Lake City, Minn. She is currently serving as the Junior Vice President of the First District V.F.W. Auxiliary. Karen was present to perform the annual inspection of the auxiliary’s records; all were found to be in order.
The joint membership dinner of the American Legion, V.F.W., and Sons of the American Legion was held on Saturday, October 15, at the Preston Servicemen’s Club. Members of the Fillmore Central Senior Class served as waiters and waitresses. Membership awards were presented to auxiliary members; Doris Leeseberg for 60 years of continuous membership and Kay Ristau for 40 years of continuous membership.
Preston’s auxiliary currently has approximately 95 members and is always looking for new members. The auxiliary is no longer known as the “ladies” auxiliary. Due to changes made at the national level of the organization in August 2015, men are now also eligible to join the auxiliary. They can join on the eligibility of a child, parent, grandparent, sibling, or spouse that is a veteran of a foreign war. Meetings are held at the Preston Servicemen’s Club at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month (no meetings in January, February, June or July). Anyone interested in joining the V.F.W. Auxiliary may contact Diane Johnson, president at 765-4447 or Dawn Ristau, treasurer at 765-4710.
