March 1, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Philip Scheevel obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Philip Merlin Scheevel, 77, of Spicer, Minn., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, after a short battle with lung cancer. Phil was a loving family man who was active in his community and church. He was a passionate and gifted wood carver who served as president and long-time member of the West Central MN Wood Carvers Club, as well as the Willmar Area Arts Council. Phil loved sports and dedicated many years to running the score clock at NL-S basketball games. He was involved with the Green Lake Road Race and was race director for nine years. Phil was known for his love of family, kindness and giving spirit, endless knowledge, never passing up a chance for a good conversation and always sharing his homemade candies and newest wood carvings.

Phil is survived by his loving wife Rochelle “Rocky” Scheevel, daughters Lynn (Steve) Rothmeier and Karianne (Berge) Scheevel, and granddaughter Ellery Rothmeier. Also survived by siblings Kay (Ed) Rauk, John (Connie) Scheevel and Janice (Ron) Szews; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Merlin and Frances Scheevel, sister Judy (Bill) Jensen, and nephew Brian Jensen.

Cremation entrusted to Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home of Willmar. Memorials can be sent to Box 215 Spicer, Minn. 56288. Family kindly requests no plants/flowers. For more about Phil’s life, and to leave words of remembrance and sympathy, please visit everloved.com/life-of/philip-scheevel/.

A private, family service will be held on March 6, 11:30 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer and live-streamed at www.youtube.com/channel/UCLTLXQpoTV56NW6pC6rU3Zg.

A larger celebration of life will be held for Phil at a later date to be announced.
