Paul A. Spande, 83, of rural Mabel, Minn., died Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.
Paul was born October 7, 1937, in Rochester, Minn., to Alton and Iva (Skrukrud) Spande. He graduated from the Mabel High School and later the University of Minnesota with a degree in Agriculture. From 1960 to 1966 he served in the United States Army and Army Reserves with the 5th Army Engineers. On November 12, 1966, he married Janice Ellestad in Fountain. They farmed the family farm in Preble Township of Fillmore County his entire life.
He was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church. He had served on the Preble Township Board and the Mabel Cooperative Telephone Board. He enjoyed working with his hands by creating many cross stitch and woodworking projects. He also had a love of Oliver tractors, and model airplanes.
Paul is survived by his wife Janice of Mabel, three sons: Mark of Canton, Todd of Superior, Wis., and Justin of Hamburg, Minn.; three grandchildren: Tyler of Lanesboro, Alyssa (Austin) Ryan of Decorah, Iowa, and Kelly Carlson of San Deigo, Calif.; three great-grandchildren: Harper, Oaklee, and Tripp; and a brother, John of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Donna.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 10–10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
