Otis William Kunert, 77, of Ostrander, Minn., passed away on July 2, 2024 at Spring Valley Living, in Spring Valley, Minn.
Otis was born on November 30, 1946, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Otis Sr. and Marjorie (Shugart) Kunert. He later moved with his family to Minnesota and graduated from Spring Valley High School.
Otis proudly served in the United States Navy from April 1966 to March 1969, where he developed a lifelong interest in Navy ships. Following his military service, he worked in construction before taking up farming, from which he eventually retired. On June 26, 1976, Otis married Suzanne Simpson. To this union, two children were born, Daniel and Christopher. Family meant everything to him. He cherished the time spent with his granddaughters, fishing with his boys, and cruising with his family. He was a beloved social butterfly known for his ability to make friends with everyone he met. Otis loved all the time he spent with his siblings on the farm. He was a true outdoorsman, enjoying bicycling, fishing, and growing potatoes.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Kunert; his children, Daniel (Tanya) Kunert of Andover, Minn., and their children Annabell and Genevieve, and Christopher Kunert of Hinckley, Minn.; siblings Timothy (Mary) Kunert of Rochester, Minn., Kirk (Betty) Kunert of Spring Valley, Minn.
Otis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert, and nephew Joseph.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, Minn., with Pastor Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the start of the service at the church. Hindt Funeral Home of Spring Valley, Minn., is assisting the family with arrangements.
