Chatfield Public Schools

Special School Board Meeting

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the special meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 227, Olmsted, Fillmore, and Winona Counties was held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.   Others Present:  Ed Harris, Randy Paulson, Shane McBroom, Jay Harstad.  The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Roll call was taken with the following members present Isensee, Priebe, Thompson, McMahon, Harstad, and Keefe.

Action/Discussion

The special meeting was called to consider administrative recommendations regarding:

1.The administrative recommendation to transition to 5 day in person learning in grades K-12 starting March 1.  Additionally, February 24 would be designated as a staff workshop day with no school day for students.

2.Consider the quit claim deed request presented by legal counsel representing landowner Gerald Marum.

Mr. Harris briefly reviewed the administrative recommendation for 5 day in person learning that was presented to the SB on February 10.  Following a motion by Priebe and 2nd by Harstad, the SB discussed the recommendation and approved the motion 6-0 based on the low COVID case rates in Chatfield and the support of Fillmore County Public Health and a state epidemiologist.

Mr. Harris reviewed the quit claim deed request.  Motion by Keefe, 2nd by Harstad to approve.  Approved 6-0.

Member McMahon left the meeting due to a prior commitment.

The balance of the meeting was a learning session for the SB.  Mr. Harris, Mr. Paulson, Mr. McBroom, and Mr. Harstad provided overviews/updates in the following topics:

Chain of Command/Complaints/Appeals

Media Relations

Staff Evaluations

SB Meeting Mechanics

Contracts and Labor Groups

Adjournment

Motion to adjourn by Harstad, 2nd by Priebe.  No discussion, Motion passed 5-0.

Meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
