Norman P. Nordsving, age 84, of rural Canton died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
Norman was born July 26, 1940, in Winneshiek County, Iowa to Cyrus and Luverne (Young) Nordsving. He graduated from the Mabel High School with the class of 1958. In 1958 Norman entered in the United States Navy where he was in machine Maintenance and attained the rank of Machinist Mate before his discharge in 1962.
On September 21, 1963, he was united in marriage to Hildred Evenrud at the Henrytown Lutheran Church. He farmed on Hildred’s family farm in Lenora, milking cows and later raising crops. He also was a mechanic and did road maintenance for Canton Township for many years. Hildred passed away March 31, 2008.
Norman was a member of the Henrytown Lutheran Church and enjoyed working on his Allis Chalmer tractors and helping his sons and grandsons with garden tractor pulling, and racing go-karts and cars.
Norman is survived by two children, Kristi (Dave) Sivesind of Racine, Minn., and Jon (Sheila) of Canton; and four grandsons: Ryan Sivesind, Kyle (Courtney) Sivesind, Lucas Nordsving and Nathan Nordsving; great-grandchildren Ayden Nelson, and Thatcher and Kolston Sivesind; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Hildred, his parents, a son, Jason; a brother, Manferd; and a sister, Sharon Nordsving.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, October 17 at the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Harmony. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday prior to services at the church. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting the family.
