Neva Swenson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Neva Swenson, age 89, of Chatfield, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield surrounded by her loving family.

Neva Katherine was born on July 28, 1936, in Caledonia, Minn., to Henry and Irma (nee Kruse) Reinke. She attended school in Waukon, Iowa, and worked as a secretary for the Waukon School District. She married Arthur Swenson on February 19, 1955, at United Church of Christ in New Albin. The couple moved to Chatfield in 1956 and raised their children there. Neva was an educational support professional for the Chatfield Elementary school for over 40 years. She was a wonderful cook and baker who was known for her amazing potato salad. She was a member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Chatfield.

Neva will be missed by her children Donald A. Swenson and Nancy Jo (Ed Solum) Berry, both of Chatfield, grandchildren Mitchel (Brayonna) Berry and Mara Jo (Tyler) Brown, and great-grandchildren Paisley and Sadie Berry and Tatum and Lucas Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur on March 16, 2013, son-in-law Mark Berry on May 20, 2019, an infant daughter on November 25, 1958, and a grandson, Cole Brown, on November 10, 2020. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Merlin and Robert Reinke.

Funeral services for Neva will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Joy Ridge Event Center at 11 a.m., with Pastor Tammy Rider officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the event center.

Burial will follow in the Chatfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dan, Dick, Dean, John, Steve and Jim Reinke.

A luncheon and a time for sharing memories will be held at the event center following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Neva’s name to the Chatfield Education Foundation, Pioneer Presbyterian Church or the Chosen Valley Care Center are greatly appreciated.
