MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #239

The regular meeting of the Rushford-Peterson School District #239 was called to order by Chairperson Chris Grindland at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021, in the Rushford-Peterson Schools Forum Room with Joyce Iverson participating via Zoom.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Chris Grindland, Matt Helgemoe Joyce Iverson (via Zoom), Jeff Michel, Bonnie Prinsen, Ken Sawle, and Amy Woxland.

Members absent: None

Administration Present: Superintendent Jon Thompson, Jake Timm and Angela Shepard

District Personnel: Laura Hahn

Director Michel requested the addition of an agenda item to discuss partnering with MN State College Southeast in Winona’s Truck Driving Program.

Motion by Michel, seconded by Sawle to adopt the agenda with the following additions: Consent Agenda: Personnel: Resignation of Katrina Grover – Middle School Paraprofessional and New Business Item E. discuss partnering with MN State College Southeast in Winona’s Truck Driving Program. Motion carried unanimously.

Public comments: Jason Ploetz, Christopher Oatman, Sarah Sprague and Tiffany Young

There was a brief discussion regarding recent COVID cases, vaccination status and close contact protocols.

Jacob Kramer gave the board an overview on upcoming Diversity Club topics and events.

Motion by Michel, seconded by Helgemoe to approve the following consent agenda items: September 20, 2021 Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes, Donation in the amount of $24,000 from the Booster Club for Softball field bathrooms / concessions, September hand payables, wires and payroll liabilities in the amount of $348,465.03, September payroll in the amount of $266,558.86, October Board bills in the amount of $187,028.90; Personnel: Retirement of Robert Nordby as of December 31, 2021, Hire of David Petersen to assist with snow removal and resignation of Katrina Grover – Middle School Paraprofessional. Motion carried unanimously.

The board discussed adding a student board member. No board action was taken.

Motion by Michel, seconded by Iverson to approve a $0.50 per hour increase on the base wage for van drivers. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Prinsen, seconded by Helgemoe to approve increasing the current daily teacher sub rate from $110 to $125. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, seconded Prinsen to approve the first reading of the following policies: #405 – Veteran’s Preference, #407 – Employee Right to Know – Exposure to Hazardous Substances, #408 – Subpoena of a School District Employee, #409 – Employee Publications, Instructional Materials, Inventions and Creations and #416 – Drug and Alcohol Testing. Motion carried unanimously.

There was discussion between the board and administration regarding the possible partnering with MN State College Southeast in Winona’s Truck Driving Program. No action was taken.

Superintendent Thompson presented the Superintendent’s report.

The Elementary Principal, MS/HS Principal and Activities Reports as well as an update from the School Nurse were all reviewed.

INFORMATION:

Regular Monthly Board Meeting beginning at 5:30 in the Forum Room:

November 15, December 20 (Truth-in-Taxation meeting will begin at 6:15 p.m.)

Special meeting to canvass school board election results beginning at 5:30 in the Forum Room: November 8

Moved by Michel, seconded by Iverson, to adjourn the regular meeting at 7:05 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
